Daily Rant from Sagacity

On the day when Pres. Obama and his crew fires a CEO of a private company and dictates terms for its continued existence (and the existence of at least one other), I read this in C.S. Lewis' MERE CHRISTIANITY:
Greed may drive men into competition if there is not enough to go round; but the proud man, even when he has got more than he can possibly want, will try to get still more to assert his power.
(And further down the same page): For, of course, power is what Pride really enjoys: there is nothing makes a man feel so superior to others as being able to move them about like toy soldiers.
Hmmm

And for my atheist friends: In God you come up against something which is in every respect immeasurably superior to yourself. Unless you know God as that--and, therefore, know yourself as nothing in comparison--you do not know God at all. As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.

Daily Rant from Sagacity

This is Susan. Among other things, I am sick to death of the characterization of those whose political views are conservative as uneducated and ignorant. I am not young (I have been around the block a few times.) I have education. I have traveled Europe and much of the US. I have had professional level jobs for close to 30 years. In my Seminary training, in particular, critical thinking was pounded in my head. (And I got good grades!) The 7 units of CPE I endured (other chaplains will understand!) required small-group self-disclosure and peer review like no other training on the Masters level requires (at least that I know of.)
I am convinced--utterly--that there are hundreds of thousands into the millions of people with similar educational opportunities who choose political conservatism, not from a position of ignorance, but from the strength of their training and their life experiences.
Likewise, the leftist assumption that if you practice your Christian faith then something is mentally wrong with you, is intellectually empty and silly (and lazy, too!)

So this is where I will start. We will see where it leads.
